Earth to Sky III: Interpreting Climate Change

Earth to Sky III: Interpreting Climate Change was held January 26–30, 2009 at the NPS Mather Training Center, Harpers Ferry WV

This workshop featured over 25 NASA scientists and education specialists, who presented information on their research and programs related to Climate Change. Participants included 30 rangers from all regions of the National Park Service (NPS), plus several attendees from U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), and other informal education groups. Each participant developed an action plan to use NASA science content in interpretation and/or educational efforts, and each is committed to also train other education professionals on what they learned.

Ultimately millions of visitors to our nation’s public lands will be learning more about the effects of climate change on our public lands, and what positive steps they and others can take to mitigate and adapt to climate change.

A series of follow up distance learning events are being scheduled throughout 2009. The workshop was led by NASA’s Landsat Education and Outreach team, in partnership with NPS, and was hosted at NPS’ Mather Training Center and NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. Funding was provided by NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, with in-kind contributions from LDCM, NPS and USFWS.
